PARLIAMENTARIAN

The parliamentarian is an executive board member who advises the president and acts as a consultant

for other executive board members, committee members, and PTA members on parliamentary

procedures.

The parliamentarian's role during a meeting is strictly advisory since, by parliamentary law, only the

chair has the authority to rule on questions of order or to answer parliamentary inquiries.

A parliamentarian must have a fair and impartial mind, attitude, and knowledge of parliamentary

procedure. A parliamentarian in PTA must have a fundamental understanding of PTA – its vision,

mission, and purposes – and its governing documents – bylaws, standing rules, and policies.
