Texas PTA promotes environmental awareness initiatives that unite parents, students, teachers and campus administrators in an effort to protect children and their environment.
Keep Allen Beautiful (KAB) is an organization dedicated to developing and fostering programs which help make Allen a cleaner, healthier and more attractive city. KAB hosts a number of annual programs and provides public education and outreach opportunities year-round.
The mission of the Allen Garden Club is to educate the people in Allen and surrounding areas about natural gardening practices and the benefits of gardening, encouraging people to conserve our natural resources and exemplify public spirit by participation in community service projects.
National Planting Day - SEPTEMBER
KAB and Allen Garden Club host Allen's National Planting Day. The event celebrates the value and power of native species in restoring ecological balance to the environment while creating greener, more beautiful communities. On this day residents are encouraged to make a special effort to plant native species at home and join a volunteer effort to beautify the community. This year's National Planting Day is September 8th.
The Educator Expo gives educators a chance to network & discover educational programs designed to enhance curricula. Teachers, home school groups, scout leaders, and PTA members are invited to attend. This year's Educator Expo will be held on Tuesday, September 25, from 4 to 6 pm. Register now!
This annual competition for Allen ISD students is held in conjunction with Allen Recycles Day. The contest is open to K - 12 grades. Students must submit their entries to their school no later than October 19. The top 3 entries per grade will be forwarded to compete at the City level no later than October 24. Overall winners will be recognized on November 3. This year's theme is "WILD for Recycling." Rules will be posted soon. See KAB for more details.
This annual event provides resident the opportunity to bring items for reuse or recycling to the City Hall parking lot. Participating organizations are on hand to collect these items. Middle and high school students are encouraged to receive volunteer hours by helping operate the event. This year's Allen Recycles Day is Novermber 3rd, 2018.
This contest challenges 4th and 5th grade students to design and create informational posters. The current theme is: "Trees are Terrific...Inside and Out!" Winners are recognized at an Allen City Council meeting in February. The first place winner receives recognition at his/her school and a tree planted in their honor. Contest rules and lesson plans will be posted soon at KAB.
Keep Allen Beautiful and The Shoe Bank host this contest every spring. Allen ISD schools (K-12) compete to donate the most new or gently-used shoes to the shoe bank. The school collecting the most pairs per student wins the grand prize.
Earthfest is a community celebration of the great outdoors. This family-friendly event features hands-on environmental activities, nature walks, bird watching, wildlife presentations and more. Join the Earthfest Facebook Page for updates.
This is the largest cleanup event in Collin County! Residents can drop off trash, computers, household goods, yard waste, cardboard, shoes, cell phones eyeglasses and more. Items will be reused or recycled if possible. Paper shredding services are also available. Middle and high school students who need volunteer hours are encouraged to participate.
