LOCAL PTA ACTION ITEMS

Requirements for Local PTAs to participate and receive Book Fair profits: 

• Collect, sort and count books at your campus
• Volunteer 4 hours during Book Fair setup, sale or event breakdown

Local PTA Boards must take a vote:

• Will we participate? Yes/No
• If we participate, will we take profits for our own needs or donate back to Council for Allen ISD Staff grants?
• Once the vote is taken, please fill out the Local PTA Interest Form

IMPORTANT DATES:

• Spring 2026:  Donation collection at schools
  
  
• DATES TBA:  Books must be counted and sorted, ready for transport by end of day
  •  District will collect books at west side campuses and transport to Allen ISD Service Center
    
• April 17-23, 2026:  Setup at Allen ISD Service Center (Local PTAs can serve their volunteer hours during this period, the sale, or during event teardown.)
  
  
• April 2026: Dates for collection at Allen ISD Admin & Service Center as well as designated City of Allen Donation Sites (Joe Farmer Rec Center, Steve Terrell Rec Center, Senior Center and Allen City Hall). 
  
  

NOTE: Signs for local campuses will be distributed by Council.  Keep an eye out for the date for those!
 

BOOK DONATIONS

Please box books with spines up for easy reading.  Slimmer children’s books without titles on spines are the exception to this.  

Categories for sorting: 

• Preschool
• Children’s Books
• Children’s Chapter Books
• Children’s Non-Fiction
• Young Adult Fiction
• Adult Fiction
• Adult Non-Fiction
• Cookbooks
• Foreign Language
• Religious

Items NOT accepted:  

• DVDs
• CDs
• Video Games
• Damaged books
• Comics
• Textbooks

Ideas for collecting books: 

• Work with your principal to discuss class competitions, drop-off days, maybe an evening drop-off time for working families
• Clubs could have a contest for collects the most
• Keep an eye open for garage sales & ask if they will donate
• Ask friends, neighbors, relatives & co-workers who don’t have kids in Allen ISD to donate
• Post on NextDoor, Facebook and other social media for donations.

FAQ

Q: My PTA doesn’t have storage space, what can we do?

A: Call Council!  We have LIMITED storage space before the Service Center opens for all drop-offs.

Q: Our local volunteers are stretched thin and we need help sorting books. Who can help?

A: Call Council!  We will work with PALS, NJHS and other service organizations to provide teen volunteers as needed.
