LOCAL PTA ACTION ITEMS

Requirements for Local PTAs to participate and receive Book Fair profits: 

  • Collect, sort and count books at your campus
  • Volunteer 4 hours during Book Fair setup, sale or event breakdown

Local PTA Boards must take a vote:

  • Will we participate? Yes/No
  • If we participate, will we take profits for our own needs or donate back to Council for Allen ISD Staff grants?
  • Once the vote is taken, please fill out the Local PTA Interest Form

 

IMPORTANT DATES:

  • Spring 2026:  Donation collection at schools (dates chosen by local PTAs)

  • March 30-April 15, 2026: Public donation sites open (City locations, Allen ISD Service Center, Allen ISD Administration Building, Allen Chamber of Commerce)
  • April 15, 2026:  Books ay local campusesmust be counted and sorted, ready for transport by end of day
  • April 16-17, 2026:  District will collect books at campuses and transport to Allen ISD Service Center
  • April 17-23, 2026:  Setup at Allen ISD Service Center (Local PTAs can serve their volunteer hours during this period, the sale, or during event teardown.)
  • April 23-25, 2026: Used Book Fair Sale 

NOTE: Yard signs for local campuses will be distributed by Council or Used Book Fair Committee in April.  
 

BOOK DONATIONS: 

 

Please box books with spines up for easy reading.  Slimmer children’s books without titles on spines are the exception to this.

Items NOT accepted:  

  • DVDs
  • CDs (Music)
  • Video Games
  • Damaged books
  • Textbooks

 

Ideas for collecting books: 

  • Work with your principal to discuss class competitions, drop-off days, maybe an evening drop-off time for working families
  • Clubs could have a contest for collects the most
  • Keep an eye open for garage sales & ask if they will donate
  • Ask friends, neighbors, relatives & co-workers who don’t have kids in Allen ISD to donate
  • Post on NextDoor, Facebook and other social media for donations.

FAQ

Q: My PTA doesn’t have storage space, what can we do?

A: Call Council!  We have LIMITED storage space before the Service Center opens for all drop-offs.

  

Q: Our local volunteers are stretched thin and we need help sorting books. Who can help?

A: Call Council!  We will work with PALS, NJHS and other service organizations to provide teen volunteers as needed.
